Lovely Hot Summer

The goat's have really appreciated the good weather this year. There has been plenty of grass to eat and hard ground is very good for their feet. We have also got lots of lovely hay stored for the winter. We need to get the barn cleaned out and stock up on straw this month. We have some 75% boer goat kids this year. They have a good shape and fabulous markings and colouring.
The sheep have done well too. We had a very cold start with lambing in march in the snow under a 'put me up' arrangement with a waterproof sheet and bales. This actually worked very well but we were bursting at the seams with lambs by the time the snow disappeared. The lack of spring grass held up the lambs early on but fortunately they caught up and we have just weaned the last of the lambs off the ewes ready for the rams to go in with them in october. We sell our lamb as whole or half freezer lambs and on Wollaton, Loughborough, Bingham and Leicester Farmer's Markets.
